Youth Presentation:

The Your Choice Youth Presentation features different speakers who share their stories, with the hope that each student would relate to at least one speaker. The youth presentation is appropriate for 6th through 12th graders. Topics covered during the presentation include: how futures can be impacted by choices, the importance of choosing the right friends, how choices affect others, the hardships and devastation caused by drugs and alcohol, and how to reach out for help.

"Thank you so much for bringing the Your Choice program to our school.  Our staff and many of our students felt that it was the best positive choice program that they have seen.  Even if it helps ONE person make the right choices, it is worth it.  Please relay our sincerest thanks to Ashleigh, Tyler, and Bryan." - Scott Schulz, Principal at Random Lake High School

Youth Health Class Education:

Students are walked through a power point presentation with personal experiences from two presenters; one in recovery and one who did not use drugs, who weave into the presentation their choice to use alcohol and other drugs - or not.  The youth speaker in recovery answers questions about how his drug use began, what influenced him, the misconceptions he had about drug use, what addiction looked like in his life, how he found recovery and what recovery revealed about him.

In-between the educational segments are information, questions and thought-provoking metaphors which highlight:

Information.  You say you want honesty.  Can you hear it?
Addiction - what does that look like in the life of a suburban student?
"It won't happen to me."
The substances - prescription drugs, marijuana, heroin, alcohol.
Did you know?  Surprising facts about drug use and consequences.
Internal conflicts - pain, pressure, parties, peeps.
Not everyone does it.  How and why they don’t
It's ultimately "your choice."  Make it a choice based on truth.

If desired, we allow time for questions and answers or a brief discussion.

We provide each student with resources for help for themselves or a friend.

This presentation is designed for 50-55 minutes but can be edited for a shorter time allotment.

"I wanted to let you and the staff know what a positive impact the speaker you had in class a few weeks ago had on my son and his classmates.  My son usually doesn’t relay too many details to me about his school day.  However, he talked to me at length about the speaker who came in to talk to the students about his past drug and alcohol abuse.  My son talked about the speaker being informative, believable, and able to relate to the students without being preachy and detached.  He described the talk as powerful and after talking with his friends found out they felt the same way.  I hope speakers like this can continue to be part of the Freshman Health Class as well as integrated somehow into the school day for older students every year so they continually hear the message about the devastation of drugs and alcohol. Job well done – thank you!" - Parent of student who saw a Your Choice Health Class presentation

Your Choice can provide education to teachers, law enforcement, bus drivers, church groups, and businesses on these topics:

  1. Why kids use drugs and alcohol
  2. What you, as the community, can do to combat the problem
  3. How to spot drug/alcohol use
  4. Trends in local drug use

This presentation can be tailored to meet the needs of the group.

One Family to Another Discussion

The Your Choice family can share their personal experiences one on one with a family in need. Our goals for this discussion are to let struggling families know that they are not alone and to encourage them to openly talk about the problems they are facing and how they can work to resolve them.
